Stoughton Native Produces Hollywood Film

STOUGHTON NATIVE PRODUCES HOLLYWOOD FILM: Frederick Levy, a Stoughton native and 1988 graduate of Stoughton High, now lives in Los Angeles. He is the founder of Management 101, where he guides the careers of actors, writers and directors, and also develops and produces feature films and television programs.

He has written a number of books, including the best-sellers "Hollywood 101--The Film Industry: How to Succeed in Hollywood Without Connections" and "Short Films 101: How To Make a Short Film and Launch Your Filmmaking Career."

He was the Associate Producer of "Frailty," starring Matthew McConaughey, and has worked on many other films, including "Reindeer Games" and "Mr. Wrong".

Levy has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, MTV, CNN, Fox News, and PMPNetwork.com. He teaches film classes at USC and UCLA Extension, based on his best-selling aforementioned book, "Hollywood 101."

Frederick, the son of Barry and Lois Levy of Stoughton, spoke with About Town recently about his latest work, "Geography Club," a film he produced.

It will be playing at the Boston LGBT Film Festival on Sunday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Levy will be attending the screening and doing a Q&A after the film.

The film is about a gay student trying to "fit in." It tackles hot button topics like bullying and self-identity.

The film, which is rated PG-13, was entertaining, funny and sad, and moving. I watched a screener of the film. You can see a trailer and synopsis for the movie here:

It's based on the best-selling Young Adult novel of the same name by Brent Hartinger and stars Cameron Deane Stewart, Nikki Blonsky, Ana Gasteyer and Scott Bakula (of "Quantum Leap" fame.)

We'll let our readers know when the DVD is released. I think it is an excellent film, and would be a good addition to local middle school and high school curriculum.
