It's funny how things happen. I help actors, but I was never looking to be one. Then a few months ago, I got a call asking me to participate in a new car owner survey. Since I had recently purchased a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid, and really loved the car, I thought, why not. Long story short, they ended up filming me for a commercial and it's just started airing. I thought it might air when I first received a letter from SAG stating that I was now eligible to join the union. But a search for the ad online proved futile, and none of my friends had seen it on TV either. But this morning, my cousin in Denver called to say she saw the commercial run on TBS. And sure enough, another search online yielded the following result:
For those of you anxiously auditioning for commercials, I say to you this. You can do everything right and still not book. Sometimes, there's just the luck factor that makes the job go your way. I'm not sure I have a bright future in commercials., but this was definitely a fun experience that I will remember for a long time. In the meantime, I feel much more comfortable behind the scenes helping my clients book their own commercials.
