Frederick's writing career began in college where he worked as a staff writer for the Daily Trojan at the University of Southern California where he covered the entertainment beat. He interviewed celebrities including Rick Schroeder, Kim Fields and Leonard Nimoy, and was one of the first student journalists credentialed for The Academy Awards. While at USC, Frederick also became the News Director and Entertainment Director at KSCR, the student-run radio staton.

In 1999, Frederick was having lunch with a book agent in New York who suggested he write a book. She introduced him to editor James Robert Parrish, himself a prolific author, who commissioned Frederick to write his first book, Hollywood 101. The book became a two-time LA Times Best Seller and launched Frederick's writing career. To date, he's written seven books about the entertainment industry and is currently at work on his debut novel.
